So last Friday, I put Hudson in his kennel and headed out the door to the garage to run some errands. I realized when I got in the garage that I'd left my phone in the house so I turned to go back inside only to find the door to the house from the garage l-o-c-k-e-d. (We lock it at night.) No big deal right...I can just use my key and go in that door.
Funny thing...it's a different key than the front door and we hadn't been carrying these keys with us. So I guess I'll head in the front door.
W-r-o-n-g!
Since the weather had been so lovely, I've been leaving the front door open with just the screen door and being alone during the day, I lock the screen door. There is no key to the screen door.
I was completely and utterly locked out. So I decided to run my errands and figure it out when I was done.
Three positive things in this situation:
1. Hudson was in his kennel.
2. I had my car keys.
3. I had a Yellow Pages in my car (yeah, not sure why...).
One negative thing about this situation:
1. I had no phone.
I came to the conclusion that I'd just find a pay phone and call Matthew at work. He could help. But you know what? Pay phones don't really exist anymore. That was tricky to find.
I ventured into the Century III mall and spotted one. I called Matthew...he laughed, I cried and we decided he'd meet me in the parking lot of his work and give me his cell phone so that I could call a locksmith.
I scanned "locksmiths" in the yellow pages, picked one, and made the call. Their slogan was "we're there to help in 15 minutes or less..." That's positive! So I headed back to the house to
wait...
and wait...
and wait...
and wait.
So 15 minutes = 2 hours?
Nevertheless, the gentleman showed up, Hudson was barking, it was pouring rain, and slowly but surely the door opened. And since he was already here, I had him re-key the doors so we have one fantastic key that will open them.
Now, I just have to remember not to lock the screen door because that's a french key and a whole different story...
