celebrating Christmas.

We celebrated Christmas together this morning, just the two (err...three if you count the dog) of us! After sleeping in, we got up and made raspberry coffee cake and southwestern egg sandwiches (with Egg Beaters, woot! woot!) and orange julius (so yummy!!!). Then, we exchanged our stockings!
There are many things we can think of that we would love to have...a digital SLR camera, a buffet/hutch to match our kitchen table, golf clubs for M, shock collar for Hudson, a bike, a flat screen tv, etc, etc.... But this year, Matthew and I decided we did not need any presents from each other and wanted to give more. It seems each year, there is less we truly need and we felt it on our hearts this year to do something different. There are so many people who need so much. We open the bulletin at church and there are always requests for help, money, or donations. A few weeks ago, we went to church and saw they were taking up offering and donations to buy food, animals, and Christmas dinners for families in Central America. It cost $10 to feed a family of 4 a Christmas dinner in Haiti. Our hearts felt really heavy leaving church that night. As soon as we got in the car, I looked at Matthew and told him that I did not want any presents from him but would rather spend the money on somebody else. He looked at me and said he was thinking the same thing. God spoke to us that night. So for Christmas this year, we exchanged stocking "stuff" and decided to adopt a child from Compassion International. We are looking forward to writing our 8 year old boy and sharing the joy and love we experience, with him!
