Monday night, Mr. T had a game. They were warming up at the bottom of the 1st inning and he was at 3rd base. He went to field a practice grounder and went to trap the ball in his glove with his right hand but got there a little too quickly with it and caught the ball on his finger. He played through the first batter of the inning and since it was spewing blood everywhere decided he needed to go. We left, thinking it was just a bloody fingernail and that it would heal once the blood worked its way out. Well that was not all. On Tuesday, he went to the medical department at his work and the doctor there suggested M see his regular doctor because he thought it was probably broken. Meanwhile, his finger continues to bleed. They did give him some cool little wraps for his finger.
So today, I met Matthew at the doctor, who looked at his finger and his thigh. The doc said the bruise on his thigh could take three months to fully heal and it may move down his leg...gross! Anyway, she sent him straight to x-ray for his finger. The radiologist tech took the x-ray and went straight to tell the doc so they could get him in with the orthopaedic hand surgeon who happened to be in the office. He saw the doctor who confirmed it was broken at the tip of his finger and sent him to have a splint made in the physical therapy office. We were thankful that it does not require surgery. If he's still in pain after the 6 weeks in the split, he'll go back in; otherwise, he's good to go! Three and a half hours later and we left the UPMC offices...it was a long afternoon but so great that all the doctors were in the office today!
