We enjoyed a
fabulous anniversary trip to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland. Matthew and I enjoyed spending some quality time together, grabbing coffee each morning, eating some delicious meals, enjoying nature, and having fun!

Our drive down there was somewhat rainy and overcast but thankfully the weather cleared by the time we got to our destination!

Crossing the Mason-Dixon Line. We took some back roads into Maryland because we stopped at a local winery.

Deep Creek Cellars is a small, family owned winery.

A picture of us in front of the vineyard. We sampled some of their wines (all of the whites, and then a blueberry wine) and bought ourselves a bottle of their Yellow Jacket White, which is similar to a Riesling.

We arrived at Carmel Cove Inn. A beautiful old monastery made into a Bed & Breakfast.

The first evening we had dinner reservations but had some time before. First, we decided to walk down to the lake and check out the dock, canoes, and kayaks. We decided to give canoeing a try. It was a true test of patience and trust of each other...so hard to not think Matthew was going to tip the canoe. I just didn't want to end up in the lake in my clothes! Thankfully we paddled around for a little bit and headed back to the shore, completely dry! We also drove around through some of the parks and decided to go play mini golf before dinner.

I beat Matthew on the front nine but he came from behind and won (
even though I had two holes in one!).
This restaurant, Pine Lodge Steakhouse, had been highly recommended on several websites and by the Inn.

We had a
delicious meal. Matthew had crab cakes and I enjoyed chipotle bourbon chicken.

The Inn actually had many activities for us. We played a game of pool. Matthew won!

And we played Checkers with the Chess pieces. Ha. Matthew won!

Friday night we finished dinner in time to see the end of the Stanley Cup Championship and watch the Pens win! It was exciting. (
And if you are wondering, yes, we already bought Penguins Stanley Cup Champions t-shirts...right along side our Steelers Super Bowl Champions t-shirts! We say that we brought them all the luck. Is there any hope for the Pirates taking the World Series? Ha!).
On Saturday, we got up and enjoyed a yummy breakfast prepared at the Inn and headed to Swallow Falls State Park.

We followed the 1 and 1/2 mile trail along the Youghiogheny River. We saw the four falls along it. This is Muddy Creek Falls, the tallest one.

From the top looking down onto the bottom of the falls and the river.

We did go off the trail at times to get a closer look at some of the spots along the river. It was pretty scenery.

Climbing out on the rocks to take a picture. No worries...we are far from falling in. :)

One of the lower falls.

LOVE this picture!

After spending two hours at Swallow Falls we headed to Mountain State Brewing Company. Known for the flatbreads, we had a great lunch.

And we enjoyed beautiful view of the mountains in Maryland as we ate outside on the deck.

After lunch, we went to Deep Creek Lake State Park.

Part of the trail was extremely wooded, rocky, and hilly, and then when we got to the top it widened and opened up a bit. We, or should I say, I constantly had my eyes out for black bears. They are found in these areas and it made me a little nervous hiking. Thankfully, Mr. T seemed fully informed as to what to do if we encountered one. We went over it several times...just in case! While it would have been neat to spot one, we did not, and thankfully so.

We took a three mile hike on a moderate rated trail. Once we got to the top, we found the fire tower.

We got a kick out of this sign. Share the Road...with deer?

On Saturday evening, we had dinner at the Santa Fe Grill and decided to go play mini golf at another place. It was packed with families and kids...they probably wondered what the two of us were doing there. Nonetheless, we had fun. Matthew won, again!

On our way back to the Inn we stopped at the Lakeside Creamery for some ice cream! We were shocked to see this Kansas State University banner on the wall. Seriously, there were no other Big 12 schools up. How crazy!!!

To celebrate our wedding...we watched our video. I loved seeing and hearing it all over again (
and Matthew says he did too)!!!

Before leaving on Sunday, we snapped our picture in front of the Inn.

It was a beautiful Sunday! We didn't want to leave and kept finding ourselves stopping at just one more place before we headed out of town. First, at the Wisp Resort. This is the mountain coaster...Matthew enjoyed it!!!

We also took a chair lift ride up the moutain (
and back down...).

We saw some beautiful views of the lake.

So happy to be spending this life with each other!!!

Getting back to Pittsburgh, we thawed our top cake layer and enjoyed a somewhat tasty piece of cake.

We were surprised it actually tasted okay.

We enjoyed opening some gifts and cards from family and friends. Thank you for thinking of us on our first anniversary!

And Matthew walked in the door with these beautiful roses for me. He is wonderful!
It's amazing to us that it has already been a year! Where does the time go? We have learned so much about each other this year. We have grown to love each other more. We have spent some of the most amazing times together. We are so looking forward to the next years and all that God has planned for our life together! It is a wonderful life, indeed.
